The Leadership Brevard Class of 2017 at Canterbury Retreat & Conference Center

The Canterbury Retreat & Conference Center welcomed the Leadership Brevard 2017 members October 21st for their second session in the annual program.  Brant Menswar, Banding People Together led the morning conversations around the Collaborative Harmony Index behavioral assessment results and class members learned more about why they may be a ‘Frank’, ‘Jimmy’, ‘Lady Gaga’ or ‘Bruce’.   This self-awareness matters…both for personal development and teamwork.  The morning’s session closed with a quote from Brené Brown “Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness.”

The afternoon session was on the challenge (ropes) course led by Ties That Bind, facilitators from Titusville.  Team members used the skills and information gleaned from the am session to address ‘challenges’ both as individuals and as a team.  Here’s what several class members had to say…

  -      A team can give you the confidence to succeed at challenges you never thought you could.
 -     It is important to pay attention to everyone including those who think differently. People are capable of surprising you if you are willing to listen.
 -     Be more vulnerable with my team.
 -     Skills on how to collaborate and fix challenges facing in our company.
 -     True definition of collaboration vs. cooperation.

Leadership Brevard Class of 2017 Leadership Action Project Team Members met with the Florida Wildlife Hospital & Sanctuary staff and volunteers and pose for a photo with Corey the owl.

“Owl” let you in on an insider’s track at the Florida Wildlife Hospital & Sanctuary…one of eight of the 2017 leadership action projects (LAP’s) underway by members of the Leadership Brevard class of 2017. This LAP team is working to enhance the marketing and outreach of the sanctuary to the greater Brevard community. Leadership Brevard’s annual program increases participant’s knowledge of the community, builds a network within the class and connects them to others in leadership roles. Leadership Brevard benefits the community through the impact of these LAP’s and the engagement of a team of professionals on their mission to assist the nonprofit or municipality they are working with. Greater Titusville Renaissance celebrated the ‘changes’ in North Brevard with the Change Awards event presented by the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Saturday, November 5th.  Holly Carver (LB '11) and Marcia Newell, Legislative Aides to Commissioner Fisher were the 2016 Change Awards co-chairs.

The evening was a celebration of the impact the Renaissance has had in this Titusville/North Brevard community, working together, with the “coaching” of Commissioner Robin Fisher and other superheroes. LEAD Brevard’s President and CEO, Kristin Bakke, was one of the presenters in the Superpower of Leadership category that recognized Bob Nabors, attorney; Neil Levine, Brevard Cultural Alliance; Lynda Weatherman, EDC; and Stockton Whitten, Brevard County Manager.
Congratulations to all of the Change Awards recipients!
