Congratulations to the new best class  - the Leadership Brevard class of 2018!   Graduation was May 10th hosted by the Space Coast Association of REALTORS® and supported by Community Credit Union of Florida, FLORIDA Today and Parrish Healthcare.  PNC Bank supported the graduation ‘fractal art’ that was presented to each graduate as a framed piece to recognize their experience.  The event honored Mario Busacca, LB Class of 1997 as the 2018 recipient of the Distinguished Leadership Brevard Alumni Award. 
During the evening, the gavel of leadership was passed from current chairman of the board Josh Field, LB Class of 2007 to the chairman elect, Dale Ketcham, LB Class of 1986.

Leadership Action Project Presentations
 
All Leadership Brevard class members are required to participate in a community project during the duration of the Leadership Brevard program. These projects are designed to be a leadership learning experience for the participants and a meaningful benefit to the community organization. During its history, Leadership Brevard, the flagship community leadership program of LEAD Brevard, has organized, guided and overseen the successful completion of over 172 Leadership Action Projects (LAP’s). In recent years, the Leadership Brevard class has contributed over 2,600 annual volunteer service hours to the community with an in kind impact of over $61,256* to Brevard. Over 30 years, economic impact totals are over $1.8M!!

LEAD Brevard has several committee opportunities for you to ‘Make the Connection’.  Here’s a list of committee activities you may choose to participate in.  We need your input to make these programs and events lively and practical…for you!  CHOOSE NOW TO GET INVOLVED…make a selection and GET INVOLVED.

(Most committees meet monthly in the morning for approximately 60-90 minutes at the LEAD Brevard offices located at: 123 Barton Blvd., Rockledge. Some meetings may be different depending on the group.) 

 
 
•    15th anniversary of 4 under 40 Leadership Awards committee
LEAD Brevard board member co –chairs:  John Diamantas, Josh Field, and Michele Murrell.  Assist with planning for milestone anniversary event for February 2019; reengage previous 4 under 40 recipients and identify/secure underwriting.
 
•    Leadership Brevard Alumni Engagement committee  
LEAD Brevard board member chair: Dale Dupree.  Provide on-going leadership education and “connection” opportunities for alumni; includes working with alumni membership and engagement strategies for members designed to lead to active membership financial investment.
 
•    Leadership Brevard Curriculum committee 
LEAD Brevard board member chair: Vinnie Taranto. Working with strategic direction from the LEAD Brevard board of directors, committee develops curriculum toward defined outcomes and assists in implementation of the 8 session series Leadership Brevard Program.  Upcoming Meeting: The next Leadership Brevard Curriculum Planning Committee Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 7 from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the LEAD Brevard Office. If you would like to attend this meeting, please sign-up for this committee before June 7th. (If received after June 7th, you can still participate on the committee).
 
•    Task Force to Read and Rate 2019 Leadership Action Project proposals 
Read and evaluate approximately 25-30 proposals (2-5 pages each) that will ultimately become the Leadership Action Projects for the Leadership Brevard class of 2019 (July/August). 
 
•    Marketing committee  
LEAD Brevard board member chair: Gina Kaiser. Increase brand awareness by telling the LEAD Brevard story, develop a marketing strategy and campaign. Identify marketing opportunities to engage the LEAD Brevard audiences; review and create new marketing collateral to ‘tell the story’ and increase brand awareness. 
 
•    Leadership Essentials committee
LEAD Brevard board member co –chairs: Kim Rezanka and Milo Zonka. Market and launch new program model offering skills based training to emerging leaders (October – March).
  
•    Membership and Sponsorship committee
LEAD Brevard board member chair: Chris Kern. With staff, promote and increase membership and sponsorships (new and renewal).
 
•    Governance committee
LEAD Brevard board member chair: Beth Gitlin. The governance committee is responsible for ongoing review, recommendations and recruitment to enhance the general affairs and quality of the board of directors. 

 

 
 
   At LEAD Brevard, we believe great leaders have the unique capacity to put the common good above self-interest.  For more than 33 years, the Leadership Brevard program has inspired high-performance individuals to take their place as influential community leaders, by enabling them to think differently about themselves and their role in the community.  
 
Each year, the Leadership Brevard program accepts participants via open enrollment, on a first-come, first-served basis; limited to 60 participants.  
The Class of 2019 is at capacity.

Dr. Desmond Blackburn, LB Class of 2015, Brevard School Superintendent, has accepted a new position as the CEO of a California-based nonprofit education organization, New Teacher Center.  “people, PROCESS, performance” is a legacy he leaves in our community.  

Geo Ropert, APR, LB Class of 2001,  President, Ropert and Partners Public Relations, has been named to the National Association of nonprofit Organizations and Executives 2018 Board of Governors.  In this role, he’ll help refine, improve and strengthen “New Guidelines for Tomorrow’s Nonprofit”, a new set of governing guidelines that supercharge nonprofit capacity-building.

Andrew Pickett, LB Class of 2012, owner and CEO of Andrew Pickett Law and Benjamin “Ben” Glover, LB Class of 2016, a realtor with National Realty of Brevard, Inc. have been named to Circles of Care, Inc.’s board of directors.
They join other LB alumni also serving on the board; Dr. Brenda Fettrow, LB Class of 2001; Dr. Mary Beth Kenkel, LB Class of 2007 and Robert Salonen, LB Class of 1999.

Sandi Scannelli, LB Class of 2010 has accepted the position of the first President & CEO of the Clemmons Community Foundation, Clemmons, NC officially as of April 1, 2018 following a national search. Sandi will lead the foundation with the board of directors to connect people and resources in ways that thoughtfully and meaningfully transform the community with access, opportunity and an enriched quality of life for all residents.
